Abstract

Maharashtra’s culture is nurtured mainly by the Marathi saints. The devotional poetry and its soulful music have always been nurturing the spiritual minds in this region. Among all such types of devotional songs, the Abhaṅga takes a centre-stage with all its glory. Though the Abhaṅga-s have been collected, preserved through oral and Gāthā traditions, its musical and literal analysis has rarely been done, which is the research gap. The present paper is a venture to analyze the Abhaṅga-s from the perspective of literature and music, so that its structure and composition is simplified. It will benefit to the new poets and music composers to come up with new Abhaṅga-s, as well as it will help commoners to understand and appreciate them in a most joyful manner.
