Abstract

Sakari shruti is an intriguing subject for analysis, primarily because it represents a blend of historical, practical and literary inquiry. The name “Sakari shruti” itself isn’t widely recognized in mainstream musicological academic or literary sources, which suggests that it might be a less-known or emerging topic. The ambiguity surrounding its precise positioning and application within ragas leads to varied interpretations, often relying on intuition and stylistic tradition rather than a clearly defined tonal structure. This research paper seeks to excavate the origin, development, change and varied interpretation of Sakari Shruti in Hindustani classical music, employing a multifaceted approach that incorporates textual analysis, figurative illustrations and practical relevance. This paper aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of Indian classical music's complex tonal structure and its implications for music theory and practice.
